New Series | The Botanical Octaves
The Botanical Octaves Series is currently on view at Brisbane Wellbeing located at Level 1 235 Edward St Brisbane (opposite Queens Plaza) and will be available for sale either individually or a group from late February 2023.
Each extra wide canvas is 120cm by 90 cm - Oil on Acrylic background. Floating timber frame option available to add.
Entire series of four - $6000 including delivery within Australia or $2000 for an individual painting in the series.
The Botanical Octaves - All the Yellows - the first in my planned series of four large contemporary Australian art paintings inspired by Australian botanicals (both native and quintessential) and the different energy and resonance of each.
The inspiration for this series came when I was struggling emotionally for a few days and it occurred to me that it felt like the low octaves of a piano - deep low notes. Every artist knows that most art is more compelling with a combination of darkness and light (in musical form low notes and high notes) and that none are good or bad but all needed to create a beautiful symphony or painting.
So I chose an octave of eight botanicals in shades of yellow and from deep notes to high notes I imagine them to be….
Banksia
Bush lemons
Billy buttons
Golden penda
Grevillea
Strawflowers/everlastings
Kangaroo paw
Wattle
Next up I am painting indigos/purples… so far I have quintessential Brisbane plant Brunsfelsia (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow) which I wasn’t originally going to include as I was leaning more towards native flowers but as I was walking around the garden it was almost crying out “pick me pick me!” Also some native violets….
