Spring 2022 and Tasmanian Country
Morning mist at beautiful Curringa Farm Tasmania
In September I travelled to Tasmania for my first trekking holiday with GirlsTrek and we stayed at beautiful Curringa Farm not too far from Hobart. Now I was a little skeptical as I tended to be the kid at school who came last in cross country, tried to avoid swimming carnival at all costs and tended to get hit in the head with the volleyball…. definitely creative and not sporty! However after a lot of personal changes and challenges over the past twelve months including losing a lot of weight and becoming much fitter, I was ready to give it a go!
The group were lovely. We did the Tarn Circuit as well as some other walks including part of Mount Wellington - The Tarn was an all day hike made much more challenging by very deep snow and climbing precariously around icy frozen pools! It was incredibly satisfying to know I was capable of physically enduring much more than I had previously thought I was capable of.
The country around Hobart (well, all of Tasmania) is so lovely - the magical snow gums, the radiant wattle in full bloom, the morning mist. We stayed in a cute little cottage called Wombat at Curringa Farm which is a sheep and cropping farm run by the most lovely couple Jane and Tim. I am in the process of creating a large scale painting inspired by the view from the cottage early morning with frosty spiders webs in the wattle, baaing sheep and misty gums. I loved the ethos of the property in keeping all the old trees for wildlife and these beautiful textures and shapes made the landscape especially magical.
And all the Tasmania highlights….!
The above images will be inspiration for a painting of Curringa Farm which I’ll be painting over Summer
